Anchored In Christ

Hebrews 6:17-19
The writer of Hebrews describes the benefits of being anchored in Christ.  God's purpose in unchangeable and trustworthy in its very nature.  Anchored to Christ, we are always on solid ground.  We can easily be deceived in life.  Often we drown in smooth waters because we don't recognize the strength of the undercurrents.  Sometimes we overestimate the seaworthiness of our vessel and ignore the weather and the tides.  At other times we fail to rig our equipment properly.  Even when the waters of life are as smooth as glass, you can find yourself off course.  It can happen at any time.  Undercurrents can take you by surprise even when your Spiritual life seems to be cruising right along.  It is an age old trick of the enemy to try to gain the upper hand in increments.  He is patient and subtle.  He draws us away with distractions too miniscule to set off our internal alarms.  Before we realize we are in trouble, we have swallowed the deception - hook, line and sinker.  It does not happen overnight.  Little by little your focus gets off.  The devil will use anything he can to draw us away from God.  He is a master of the sneak approach; it's one of his favorite and most effective tactics.  He lulls us into admiring the smooth surface of the waters, while the raging current underneath is ready to swallow us up and hold us under.  The only real security we have is in our Anchor.  When we are attached to Him, He keeps us from drifting downstream.  He keeps us from entanglements wherever He leads us.  He keeps our weaknesses from overtaking us, and He brings His strength into play on our behalf.
